Rummy Game Info
There are many variations of the card game Rummy. However, they all share the same characteristics; a standard deck of 52 cards is used and most rummy games are played to a certain score.
Gin Rummy
Most people who play rummy online play the variant Gin Rummy, where strategy and skill are important succes factors. Gin Rummy is played with one deck of cards without jokers and is best played with two to four players.
Aces are played as low cards; The ranking from low till high is as follows A-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-J-Q-K.
The objective is to collect more points than your opponents.
Lay down cards you do through form sets and straights and lay them down.
For example three fours is a set, and 5 6 7 of spades is a straight.
Therefore it is possible that every card is a part of a set.
Cards who belong nowhere are being called the 'deadwood'.
Gameplay
In each turn, players must draw either the face up card of the discard pile or one card from the stock pile. The player is also allowed to knock under certain conditions. After this the players must discard one card from his or her hand onto the discard pile. Players switch turns until one player knocks, ending the game, or only 2 cards remain in the stock pile. In this situation, the game would end in a draw.
Dealing
Dealership changes from round to round with the dealer being determined by cutting the deck; low card deals. The dealer deals ten cards to his opponents and himself. The 21st card, which is called the up-card, is placed face up in a central location known as the discard pile. The remainder of the pack of card, also being called the stock pile, is placed face down next to the discard pile. The player who hasn't dealt the cards is first to play and has the option of taking the up-card. If he or she declines to take the upcard, the option to take the up-card passes to the dealer. If the dealer decides not to take the up-card, the non-dealing player has to take a card from the stock pile.
Knocking
A player may knock if he or she has less than 10 deadwood points. He or she must knock if he has 0 points of deadwood, also known as 'Gin'. When a player wants to knock, he has to announce he is going to knock and lay down his card closed on the discard pile. After this the player has to show his sets or straights as well as the deadwood cards. The other player may try to add his or her deadwood cards into the other players sets and straights.
For example, the knocking player has a set of Kings. The other player has a King between his deadwood cards. The player can lay off that King to the set of the knocking player and the deadwood count is reduced by ten points. When the knocking player has Gin the player is not allowed to do this.
